The European Studies Unit of the University of Liège announces cooperation with KOSTI
The European Studies Unit (ESU) of the University of Liège is pleased to announce the launch of a partnership with the Korean Security Agency of Trade and Industry (KOSTI). On November 26th, 2025, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of a collaborative relationship aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of trade security and export controls—areas in which both institutions have a strong focus and recognized expertise.
The agreement was signed by KOSTI Director Seo Jeong-min and ESU Director Professor Quentin Michel, as depicted in the accompanying image, during the 3rd Global Erlangen Academic Outreach event, co-hosted by UNODA, the German Federal Foreign Office, and BAFA.
As part of this partnership, ESU and KOSTI plan to gradually expand the scope of their cooperation to promote knowledge exchange and joint initiatives. This will include the organization of collaborative events, the development of joint research proposals, and the publication of scientific articles and other academic contributions. Both institutions also host peer-reviewed journals dedicated to these topics: the Journal of Trade & Security, published by KOSTI, and the Journal of Strategic Trade Control, published by the University of Liège.
ESU expresses its sincere gratitude for the trust placed by KOSTI and looks forward to fostering a strong culture of research and dialogue on strategic trade and security issues. This collaboration will contribute to raising international awareness of export control compliance and technical security capabilities, while contributing to consolidate the foundation for cooperation with European academics and policy research institutions.
