The ESU has initiated a research on countries that have adopted totally or partially the EU dual-use control list established in Annex I of the Council Regulation (EC) 428/2009 of 5 May 2009 setting up a Community regime for the control of exports, transfer, brokering and transit of dual-use items.

In view of countering academic proliferation of research involving dual-use items, the European Commission Joint Research Centre, in collaboration with Liege University (European Studies Unit), has developed a data-mining tool which can provide support to universities and research centres (but not only) for awareness raising and mapping of dual-use related scientific collaborations: TIM Dual-Use.
